PD Ports expands Humber presence

Multi-award winning logistics and supply chain company PD Ports is making further investment in the Humber having completed the acquisition of the entire issued share capital of Groveport 2012 Limited (‘Groveport’).

Groveport is a privately owned inland port complex on the Humber, which handles a mix of bulk cargoes through its 190 acre freehold site, and which has a dominant position in the UK’s market for imported steel long products.

Martin Rees, Groveport’s Managing Director, said:

Law firm Ward Hadaway and KPMG acted for PD Ports, with finance for the acquisition being provided by HSBC. Groveport were advised by Dow Schofield Watts and DWF.

The Middlesbrough-based business has already made long-term investments in the Humber region at Hull Container Terminal and in Scunthorpe. In 2013, PD Ports invested more than £950,000 at Immingham where it offers a number of key facilities and services. At Howden, where PD Ports already provides warehousing with open storage areas covering 36 acres, there is an investment of £1m, while at Keadby, £100,000 will see the purchase of new equipment.

PD Ports already employ a team of more than 350 highly skilled employees, most of whom are recruited locally, and are considered ‘the heart of the business’. Ongoing investment in its people sees more than 90 per cent of PD Ports staff involved in training and development programmes.

It is this approach that places PD Ports, which looks after port operations stretching from Hartlepool and Teesside to the Isle of Wight, as a key player in the Humber, the UK’s Energy Estuary.
